Guadalupe Mountains National Park

Over 300 species of birds make their way through Guadalupe Mountains National Park throughout the year.  RoadrunnersWrensPyrrhuloxiaVerdin, and more.  There are several locations in the park, and the website provides more information including these Summer Birds of Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Winter Birds of Guadalupe Mountains National Park checklists.


Big Bend National Park

Several locations in Bid Bend National Park boast different species of birds.  The Chisos Mountains and  Rio Grande Village are two of the most popular birding areas.  Rio Grande Village provides an opportunity to see several species of birds in Big Bend National Park.  All sorts of wading birds, numerous flycatchers, and tons of color including Painted Bunting, Woodpeckers, Cardinals, and Orioles.


Rio Bosque Wetlands Park (El Paso)

Rio Bosque Westlands Park is a 372 acre park that boasts to having over 200 species of birds.  It is located in El Paso's Mission Valley, and is part of a long term plan to restore the wetlands and riparian-forest historically found in this area.


Davis Mountains State Park

With "the best little bird blind in Texas," Davis Mountains State Park is a great place to go birding.  It is so great in fact, that the American Bird Conservancy has recognized the Park as a Globally Important Bird Area.  The park offers opportunities to see the Montezuma Quail, the Black-headed Grosbeak, and over 260 other species.  Davis Mountains State Park also provides a great birding guide/checklist for the park.


Amistad National Recreation Area

The Amistad area is a transitional zone for avifauna in Texas, and southern, wester, eastern, and northern species can be seen here.  The area boasts golden-cheeked and Colima warbler, Zone-tailed hawks, three species of kingfishers, black-bellied whistling duck, and several desert species of birds like the pyrrhuloxia.
